Look, I don't want to sound like an elitist, but this guy JUST found Youtube? Even John McCain knows where Youtube is (I think). This guy also isn't just some writer who was given the horse racing beat. And, that's the problem. I could digress off into how the powers that be are the powers that shouldn't, but I'd rather just point out the glaring problem w/ this article written in a goddam INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZEABLE PAPER!
Charlie, I don't want to ruin the surprise for you, but there are a TON of Youtube pages out there devoted to not only races, but behind the scene looks. Some of our TBA bloggers document their backstretch work regularly (ok, irregularly), but the videos are out there. The NTRA, Churchill, and BC all have their individual pages. Trainers too are starting to jump on the bandwagon.
Furthermore, you poo-poo the Sovereign Series. I'm nervous too, there aren't a lot of races included and I wonder about context , but you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the marketing dollars as being the real solution: Go after new fans, and create a sport more easily accessed for the casual fan. That's how I believe the sport will grow. That's what the TBA tries to do. |
