At Monmouth today I was on fire. First, I watched the Mothergoose next to Barclay Tagg and the Jacksons (the Jacksons), I heard Gretchen Jackson say about Hamsa (she ran so one paced), anyways they were at Monmouth not for the beer and hotdogs and I bet their filly in the turf race to great success, actually had the exacta and the tri. I was feeling good. The Suburban was wide open, I wasn't going to bet AP Arrow as he was first back from Dubai, and I hate that angle. I like Frost Giant, ran well on dirt, Giant's Causeway's get better with age, and when I was looking at him, 26-1 was pretty fair for the Dutrow/IEAH combo. I liked Solar Flare as he won his debut in the US, and that's hard to do, and I liked Rising Moon who seemed to be there w/ this group. $2 across Frost Giant, $5 win Solar, 2-4-5 exacta box for $1, I'm a small bettor. I was the only guy screaming in the stretch, and when it was 2-4 then 4-2 then 2-4 I was still the only guy screaming at Monmouth. I went to cash my tickets after they made it official, I was looking at like $300. "sorry, sir, it's not official yet, should be soon" "What?" I looked down, the guy had bet Monmouth Race 10 instead of Belmont Race 9. My soul hurts right now. PS who ever left that anon comment on my last post. Hysterical. |

This is why I use the machines lol. Same thing happened to a friend of mine, cost him 1k.
Oh man... And I second Ryan's comment about the machines. But it's a moral victory, right? :-\
Been there--and oh, the agony. Cost me $300+. I'm still not over it, and it was three years ago. Happened at an OTB.
We have all been there-and than do you count that as a win if you don't get the cash-do moral victories count?
Check your tickets before leaving the window!! New Jersey rules allow you to cancel tickets under $500 even after you've left the window.
I bet on Frost Giant -- $5 across and a $3 exacta with Solar Flare. I also had Frost Giant in the Pick 3 that I hit (It came up light, and I was unhappy Monastic Springs was a no-show at the start of my Pick 4). Playing Hipodromo, I accidently punched the fourth at Louisiana instead of Laurel. I had a $3 across-the-board ticket on a race I knew nothing about. The Louisiana horse whistled. I think I stole your karma. - J.S.
Moral Victories don't feel as good as cold hard cash, but I do take some solace in the fact htat I nailed a 40-1, it's just a shame I'll never do taht again in my life.
Yeah, thanks for pointing out, "Check your tickets" duh, i htink i learned my lesson.
MAN! I was burned in the exact same way at Monmouth on Preakness day! I had the triple in the Allaire DuPont and noticed after the race that the teller gave me a ticket for Monmouth. Not as bad a loss but it still sucked... Lesson learned indeed!
