If it Were Up to Me - Harlem Rocker

Harlem Rocker (15) is skipping the Preakness to run in the Plate Trial it seems. And, while I'm not angry or upset even over skipping the Preakness, I'm not too please w/ the Plate Trial decision. First, you should know (and you probably already do) I know nothing about training/owning/jockeying horses, and this whole post is me stroking my ego. See, I'd rather go to the Met Mile.

Plate Trial
Pros
Easy Spot - I imagine him being top choice, even money or less
Trip over the track of the big race will be nice to have in the back pocket
Cons
So what if he wins? Who will he beat?
If he loses do we still go to the Plate?
On a loss do we blame the track or the surface?

Overall doesn't seem like there's much to gain, but quite a bit to lose.

Met Mile
Pros
Outcome can only be a good thing. He wins against elders that's huge, he loses, doubtful we're the top choice.
The field is shaping up light, Bustin Stones (175) is out.
Pletcher was a "go" on the Preakness, why wouldn't he be for this.
He has a win at a one turn mile in impressive time.
Cons
The Plate will be our first 2 turn race on that surface - I say why not find out in a Gr I that's the case rather than the Plate Trial where, if you do this, you screw yourself in 2 races.

Overall the Met Mile is all about gain with not much if anything on the line.

Please go to the Met Mile.

Truthfully, no trainer is going to put an inexperienced horse in a G1 against his elders in May of his 3 yo season. The three year-olds this time of year are still several lengths short of olders, which is why the best 3 yo's race against each other until the early fall... give him a little time before you throw him in against the tigers...

Very rationale proposition for a sushi eating wimp like yourself but Frank is not rational and you are not Canadian, are you?

frank, is that you, stronach?!! ;-D, his grandfather is Holy Bull, he won the Met Mile as a 3yo, and i get that he is young, but he has a 106 Beyer in his 3rd start, I just see it as nothing to lose. I'd rather he run up the track in the Gr I MEt Mile than the meaningless Plate Trial.

Why do you think I eat sushi?

Why, yes, it is me... Stronach. And you, Handride, are fired! Go stand next to Dragone over there.
